 • First iteration on MC samples for PFA studies for Vienna

I thought we should start thinking about the suggested PFA studies for Vienna. The DESY group are in a position to generate a significant number of events on the GRID. We will discuss this issue at the LDC meeting this Thursday. I started to think about this based on the discussion that were held at Snowmass. The main issues I would like to see investigated for Vienna are:
o B-field
o detector length and radius
I think the right samples to get started are:
o Z->qq (91 GeV)
o Z->qq with EZ = 500 GeV and Mqq = 500 GeV
The second set of events would allow us to investigate energy flow performance for higher energy jets before introducing the additional complication of jet-finding.

To study detector configurations we would probably like something along the lines of:
o LDC baseline: 2T, 3T, 4T, 5T, 6T (we already have some of these)
o LDC baseline: TPC radius varied by -50cm, -25cm, +25cm, +50cm
o LDC baseline: TPC length varied by +25cm, -25cm, -50cm
These variations are fairly drastic but would hopefully allow us to investigate general trends.

Perhaps more difficult and more open to discussion is the manner in which we study the importance of dead material. Again making fairly drastic changes...
o LDC baseline: with 0.5 radiation lengths of material in TPC endplane
o LDC baseline: with a total of 0.1 radiation lengths in VTX SI layers.

People should think about this and formulate ideas for discusion on Thursday.

cheers,
Mark
